Bike & Pedestrian Transit

The Regional Bikeways Plan is up for adoption at the February 22nd meeting of the Indianapolis Regional Transportation Council Policy Committee. The plan was approved by the Technical Committee at their February 8th meeting. A 45 day public comment period on the plan ended on January 23rd. Public comments received and MPO responses are shown in Appendix D of the updated plan. The update also includes the addition of Appendix E, which outlines the procedure for municipalities to request that additional bikeways projects be added to the plan.

The Bikeways Plan is a component of the MPO’s Long Range Transportation Plan that lays out a thoughtful strategy for prioritizing the use of Federal funds spent on bikeways between now and 2035. The plan offers a look at the current cycling network, recent progress and provides a vision plan for over 1,200 miles of bikeways in Central Indiana. A public survey of area residents about cycling generates over 1,000 responses and the results can be found in chapter 3.
